yess a spinoff series with adult characters doing serious work would be fantastic. I also want a proper backstory of these two w/ some flashbacks to highschool and all. you should write more about this manga, I’m v. much interested in your thoughts

well now I’m going to ramble……..

Natsume Yuujinchou is an interesting series. Each arc manages to trigger your emotions. And as far as I am concerned Natsume is the savior of all kind deserving of his own religion. Really, this is the story about how the God Emperor Natsume spreads feels across the universe.

So I find myself in a bit of a conundrum with how interested I am in the exorcists and the world building that has been slowly happening in the series. While Natsume is delivering yet another soul to salvation the exorcists are being petty and terrible and undermining each other out of jealousy. Why am I so attracted to that. But I am. It’s great seeing that Natsume is not alone in his powers, yet he very much is since no one so far has matched up to his abilities, not even Matoba. What the hell is Natsume? How did Reiko ever create the Book of Friends? Are they decedents of humans with spiritual power or they not quite human themselves?

I’d love to see Natori and Matoba when they were younger simply because it would be interesting to see how someone other than Natsume deals with being able to see youkai and going to school. With Matoba, it’s not like he has any normal human acquaintances. But Natori is an actor so I think it’s pretty safe to say he was able to navigate the human world quite well. However, neither of them seem to have any friends anyway. Well, Natori and Matoba are both really screwed up to be honest.

Natori has a chance to have a life in the human world but it’s really kind of a sham. His empty apartment is really depressing and telling. He hides his equipment, though he keeps most of it at his family house anyway. It’s like doubly horrible that he’s an actor and an exorcist. He has to worry that people are trying to befriend him because he’s famous while at the same be concerned that anyone that gets close to him might be hurt because he’s an exorcist. Who can he possibly form relationships with?

Matoba really has no choice but to live in the world of exorcists because of his curse but he also has the support of his clan so things are much easier for him. But on the other hand, if Matoba ever has a child that succeeds him he knows they’re going to be cursed unless he gives up his eye… which by the way, it’s kind of sad that no parent has done that yet in the clan. Actually, I wonder how that encounter of his went. Did the previous clan head suddenly die and the youkai sensed it and went after Matoba immediately? Because that would be terrible. Did the eyepatch just come off in it’s presence? Also terrible.

I wonder how old Natori and Matoba are suppose to be?

Oh man, I feel like there is so much left to explore in this series. Too bad it’s only a monthly series.

Reblogging because of reasons.

Anyway! yessss ramblings, my favourite things about any fandom really since I’m not into fics at all. Reading thoughts of other brilliant people and rants and manifestos etc is something that brings me so much joy, honestly. Thanks a lot and… that’s it, basically, haha. You wrote everything I feel and wanted to say about these characters and there’s nothing else for me to add. At least not today for sure, 2hrs of sleep aren’t really helpinzzZZzz….

I’ve always thought both Natori’s and Matoba’s lives are quite tragic really. Natori doesn’t ever complain much but I like how his loneliness is handled and expressed through small details like the completely empty apartament or Hiiragi’s comments. Meanwhile, Matoba and his curse/eye thing… well, that speaks for itself. It’s a shame the story doesn’t dwell on it much, but the author probably doesn’t want it to become too dark I guess? I’m still keeping my fingers crossed for some flashbacks though, it’s too interesting to not at least touch on.

Bracing for Tsukiwakesai now.
